Multicast Demands on Virtual PathTrees

چکیده
In ATM networks, Virtual Path Connections (VPCs) are not only a device for bundling Virtual Circuit Connections (VCCs), but they serve as an intermediate resource management layer wherein tradeoos between cost, complexity, and eeciency are likely to be made on a slower time scale than connection holding times. In this paper we consider bundling multicast connections on VP trees. In particular, we show that the aggregation of multicast demands onto large VP trees can be an effective way to reduce capacity requirements, balance network loads, and reduce the number of VP trees required.

متن کاملOverlay Multicast for Real - Time Distributed Simulation
OVERLAY MULTICAST FOR REAL-TIME DISTRIBUTED SIMULATION This report provides a top-level architecture for an overlay multicast service in support of distributed real-time virtual simulations over an open network environment. The top-level architecture for the overlay protocol was developed based on key concepts identified in the laboratory performance studies, the analytical model, and the studi...
متن کاملA Fault-tolerant Multicast Routing Algorithm in ATM Networks
This paper presents a genetic algorithm based method to solve the capacity and routing assignment problem arising in the design of selfhealing networks using the Virtual Path (VP) concept. Past research has revealed that Preplanned Backup Protection method and the Path Restoration scheme can provide a best compromise on the reserved spare capacity and the failure restoration time. Base on a set...
متن کاملWireless Stealth Multicast: Bandwidth Conservation for Last-Mile Wireless Clients
Rich multimedia places tremendous demands on wireless networks. Thus, it is important to use the limited bandwidth available to wireless networks as efficiently as possible. One method for efficient transfer of redundant data is multicast. Unfortunately, the use of multicast is limited due to the requirement for global deployment. Additionally, heterogeneous client speeds can further complicate...
متن کاملDynamic Hybrid Topology Design for Integrated Traffic Support in WDM Mesh Networks (Invited Paper)
The future Internet will require the transport of a wide range of services including high bandwidth one-to-many applications, with a dynamic interconnection of devices. WDM layer support realizes such services in a transparent, reliable and efficient way. Most of the recent studies have been focused on efficiently building and configuring light-paths for unicast or light-trees for multicast in ...
